Just How Did You Become Ten?

When KitKat came to me at 2 years old little did I realize all of the potential contained in that little 35 lb body.
Affectionately nicknamed KitKat Padiwack by Karen Yeargain for her habit of leaping in the air and smacking you in the chest with her front legs on the fly-by as her way of a greeting (something she has passed along to her children), she quickly became KittyKat Brat in my yard, because, well, simply put, she was a complete brat. Bossy, opinionated, strong willed, and tough as nails, she immediately took on the job of mothering young 4 month old Impi, and ruling the yard with no compromise.
Today that little dynamo turns 10 years old. She has matured into such a tremendous life force that I depend on 100% for everything from being my eyes and ears in the yard, to mothering all puppies (whether they are her own or not), to a trust
worthy leader for any rookie taking team out, to a delightful house dog. She has slowed down a bit from the days of her youth, preferring instead to watch her two children behave like pin balls on crack. She is still every bit as bossy and opinionated, but instead of engaging every time, prefers now to often settle into a little dog dug hollow and referee the yard from a laying down position, or to sit regally on the spool, surveying her domain.

But every now and again she still flies across the yard and leaps up to nail me in the chest with her front feet, reminding me she may have matured, but she is still every bit my Brat!

KittyKat, may you live forever.

Happy Birthday my dear dear girl. I love you deeply.
