Nadezhda 2011

Remember I said God has a good chuckle when we make plans? Yep, ever changing plans indeed!
Because of some unforeseen airport closures, our charter flight was moved to Sunday out of Nome, arriving in Provideniya, Chukotka, Russia on Monday, April 4th (because we cross the International Date Line). What this means is that we miss the start of the race in Lavrentiya, sadly. But what this also means is a massive change in Itinerary. Before it was to travel with the race from Lavrentiya to Provideniya and then fly to Anadyr and wait for the race to finish there. NOW it seems that we join the race in Provieniya and travel about 900 km with the race to Anadyr!!
''A couple of the checkpoints are ice fisherman's shacks so... bring a sleeping bag" was the word from Russia this morning.... uh, well.... I'm on the road now and my lovely and very appropriate Wiggies is at home in the closet. A couple of phone calls later, and it seems that something appropriate will be rustled up in Provideniya.
Ice shacks does not conjure up images of internet access so will keep you posted as I can, and of course plan to take dozens of photos.

Stay tuned!
